Church Visit a Blessing for Pupils at Horatio House School
Pupils from Horatio House School recently visited the Church of St John the Baptist in Lound.
Pupils were received by Father Glen where they learned about the history of the outwardly unassuming building. For some of these children, it was the first time that they had entered a church and many were astonished at its magnificence. The church houses a gilded rood screen and a spectacular 15th Century font cover, so large that it has to be raised by a pulley from the organ console in the event of a Baptism.
Pupils were treated to a blast of “In the Night Garden” and Widor’s Toccata by Head Teacher, Rob Thornton and watched carefully as Member of Staff Paula Crane volunteered to be blessed first!
Previously an alternative provision in Yarmouth itself, Horatio House is a new independent school on the site of the old Lothingland Middle School in Lound. Many pupils have found mainstream schools difficult for a wide variety of reasons. Horatio House is passionate about the breath of education that it offers these young people and particularly its Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural syllabus. Many thanks to Father Glen for having us!
