Horatio House Independent School

Welcome to Horatio House Independent School

Horatio House became an independent school in Autumn 2016, having been a specialist centre in alternative educational provision since 2009. We are also a provider of outreach services to schools and academies.

Our school supports young people to develop their social skills and achieve qualifications outside of a more traditional school setting. With a high staff-pupil ratio, we are registered to take up to 64 secondary school aged pupils.

Our aim is that during Key Stage 3 they study a range of subjects and vocations so that during Key Stage 4 they have the chance to gain GCSEs or fully equivalent qualifications in English, Maths, ICT, Science and an Humanity, with options in Art and Graphic Design. They will have further options from a range of vocational subjects including mechanics, construction, childcare, hair and beauty and more, as well as work experience placements.

Our aim is for all pupils to gain real life and work skills and experience, and secure qualifications to enable them to move on to further education, apprenticeships or full-time employment.

Our outreach team provides specialist staff to work in schools, delivering services which enhance inclusion and achievement. Working alongside school based colleagues, support is available to pupils to help them reach their full potential, through mentoring support for those struggling to cope.

Case Studies

Scott

15/10/2014

Scott began on the Options East programme in September 2012. His school were worried about continuous incidents of disruption, refusal to follow instructions, rudeness and truanting lessons. Scott also had a history of not completing his work, which resulted from Scott walking out of lessons. Scott found English an ongoing challenge and would often refuse to engage in lessons. He displayed silly behaviour resulting in him spending time in the referral room at his school.
