Our registration provides for us to educate up to 64 children from school years 7 to 11.
Intensively-staffed by qualified teachers, instructors and teaching assistants, we see the vast majority of our pupils benefit from improved attendance, engagement and attainment.
Our full week typically comprises academic and vocational learning, alongside a work experience placement for pupils in years 10 and 11. The needs of each pupil varies, so within this broad framework, individuals may have more or less of each element than their peers and indeed separate 1:1 or very small group learning where required.
Pupils learn in groups of 8 at most and will be supported by us maintaining a 1:4 staff to pupil ratio in lessons.
They study English Language, Maths and ICT and can choose one of three options – Mechanics, Graphic Design or Art. Now we have become a school we are adding science, humanities and PE. All have the chance of achieving at least five GCSEs or full DfE approved equivalents.
All pupils are provided with a comprehensive Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme, covering sexual health, mental health awareness, employability skills and more. We accredit these topics, usually at Level 1, with the ncfe awarding body.
We have a small onsite gym and utilise the surrounding grounds to provide two sessions of physical activity each week.
The most popular progression destination from Horatio House is to East Coast College, where many students successfully complete further education courses and move on to full time employment.
