Little Blossoms Nursery Garden

Our children are encouraged to get outdoors as much as possible for plenty of fresh air and exercise.

Children have direct access to the nursery garden, which has plenty of room for children to run around and ride trikes or pedal cars and the trees along the back of the garden provide plenty of shade in summer.

We have a dedicated area for growing vegetables and other seeds, we set up mud and water play activities and, in warmer weather, we make a shaded space for quieter activities like painting, drawing, games or reading. Sometimes we even take our mid-session snack outside for an open-air picnic! Waterproof clothing and wellington boots are readily available (and compulsory) for the messier activities.

When it's not being used by the school the nursery children have use of the large playing field which surrounds the nursery garden, with its swings and climbing equipment. Being a small nursery staff are also able to take the children out for walks to the park, the shops, restaurants and other local places of interest.

Both indoors and out, older children are encouraged to take on a nurturing role, helping the younger ones to try new activities and be aware of their safety.

Our skilled practitioners are always on hand to ensure the children's safety, help them to sort out conflict and to encourage learning opportunities that naturally emerge through play. They are highly trained to balance safety, on the one hand, with children's natural desire to take risks, on the other. Our play area has soft-play surfacing so that any fall is comfortably cushioned.

The garden is always alive and busy, with a choice of staff-led activities such as skipping, balancing, ball games, music making, bubble-blowing and nature projects - or the freedom to play as they choose.

Key Person

Your child will be assigned a key person, who will help to ensure that your child's learning and care is tailored to meet his/her individual needs.

He/she will work with you to ensure that your child makes the best progress possible. He/she will keep you informed of your child's progress, let you know if there any concerns and give you ideas to support their learning at home.

In return you will be invited to share any achievements or milestones you may have observed at home.

Learning Journeys

All the time the children are playing and learning under our guidance, we will be observing their progress and taking photos of their achievements.

These are recorded in an online 'learning journal' (Tapestry) and you will be given an individual login to be able to access your child's journal whenever you like.

Healthy Snack

Mid session the children are invited to sit down for a healthy snack. We use this time to introduce new foods and tastes, as well as bringing out old favourites (see Health & Nutrition).

Snacks include healthy nibbles and bites, including dried and fresh fruits, raw vegetables, cheese, ham, pizza. Milk is served with the snack. Please let us know if your child has any known food allergies.

Children are also encouraged to drink water at other times during the session.
