EACH Colour Dash

Andrea Rix, Director of Childcare at GYCT, was one of around 500 people to take part in the EACH Colour Dash that took place in Lowestoft on Sun 9th July. Participants gathered in Normanston Park for an 11am start, before running, jogging or walking a 2-mile circuit around the park. Although the event has previously been held in numerous locations across East Anglia, this was its debut in Lowestoft.

To make things more fun, 'Paint Pirates' were strategically placed at colour stations along the route, waiting to shower participants with coloured powdered paint in vibrant shades of pink, blue, green, yellow and purple! Those that weren't feeling colourful enough at the end were invited to pick up a big pot of paint of their own and gather in the finishing field. When given the signal everyone was to throw their paint in the air, creating a ginormous multi-coloured rainbow of colour!

The event was organised by East Anglia's Children's Hospices to raise money for 'The Nook' appeal, which will help to transform children's palliative care in Norfolk. The Nook will be a purpose-designed facility, equipped to offer the very best in care and support for children suffering with life-threatening conditions. The charity has obtained planning permission for its new hospice in a fantastic five-acre woodland setting, five miles south of Norwich in Framingham Earl. This will replace the current site in Quidenham.

EACH currently provides specialist care and support for 351 children and young people, with an additional 417 family members receiving face-to-face therapeutic support. Quidenham alone is caring for 131 children and young people and 215 family members.

Last year the Colour Dashes collectively raised an amazing £150,000. This year the events have been planned on a larger scale and with more dates and locations made available. Andrea entered with a family team and their collective sponsorship should see them raise over £200 for the cause.
