Inclusion Team - For Parents and Children with Additional Needs
The Inclusion Team provides assistance to parents and children with additional needs.
We run six groups a week - two of these groups are based at The Priory Nursery, Priory Centre, Great Yarmouth and Greenacre School and the others in the Children's Centre at Gordon Road, Great Yarmouth.
The support, advice and equipment we can offer to families of children with special needs is extensive.
"Side by Side"
Designed to encourage speech and language development through play. We run one large group a week as well as a more intimate group at The Priory Nursery.
"Let's Play Together"
This is a parent-child social interaction and communication group. The aim of the group is to provide a stimulating and supportive group for parents and their children to develop their social interaction and communication skills further.
"Exploring Play"
For children and parents to experience multi-sensory exploration in a fun, safe and supportive way.
"Social Skills"
A group based with a foundation unit within a local primary school where we run a group for children who may be having difficulties with communication, sharing, taking turns and we work to help support children through their play/exploration in this group.
Feedback from these groups has been really positive with parents commenting:
"My child's social skills have grown, he really enjoys interacting with the other children and he really enjoys the group and the sensory room is great"
"He has had so much fun! It is fantastic to see him so happy and interacting with other children"
"Born To Play"
During term time we hold this weekly group for families/carers and their children. This group is designed to help social skills and communication through play to help with the transition to nursery or school.
This is supported by our very popular holiday play schemes, which take place every school holiday (excluding Christmas).
Our experienced Special Needs Practitioners are always on hand to give support and advice to families.
This support can start from pre-birth and go on to be particularly helpful during transitional periods, such as when children are starting school or nursery, or throughout multidisciplinary assessment or educational statementing.
"Music Therapy"
A qualified music therapist visits us twice a week on a Monday and Wednesday. These sessions are a 'life changing' experience for those families who visit.
We also run several dedicated Parenting Programmes for children with special needs and parents with learning difficulties. These sessions run for 6 weeks on a rolling programme on a Wednesday morning at Gordon Road, Great Yarmouth.
"Time Out of Special Needs" & "Time Out of Autism"
Sometimes parents need to get away and have 'time out'. We hold both these weekly groups offering the chance to just 'chill out' and share mutual experiences.
Play Schemes - a new scheme is starting soon!
We also run play schemes within the school holidays to allow many of our families some respite and also to allow many children with a routine and enable them to play, socialise, interact and meet new friends. The new scheme will take 30 children a day split into 2 sessions, one morning and afternoon.
Our rich and colourful Sensory Room is available to our families, offering calming and therapeutic exploration and relaxation. The outcome of this session is to help build the child and parents' self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing when living with a child with disabilities.
(By referral and appointment only).
Please Note: Children with additional needs are not restricted to the programmes and activities offered at Gordon Road. They can access and join in on any activities at The Priory Centre also.
As well as all the above groups, we also provide family support within the home and support / lead on Common Assessment Frameworks.
