About Great Yarmouth Community Trust

Great Yarmouth Community Trust is a multi-service, neighbourhood based community organisation. Formed in 2001 to be the successor of the trailblazing Sure Start Partnership in Great Yarmouth, today the Trust provides services that reach young and old.

Driven by a passion to make a real difference in the lives of residents, the mission of the Trust is to empower people to fulfil their potential. The services we deliver are designed to support people to make positive changes in their lives - from healthy choices and gaining skills, to aspiring to better jobs and giving children a sure start in life.

All our activities help the Trust to achieve our charitable objectives, benefiting the people of Great Yarmouth by:

  • Providing regeneration projects
  • Advancing education, and particularly skills for work
  • Improving the quality of life for local people, particularly through leisure activities
  • Preserving historical buildings for community use

Most of our work focuses on Nelson, Central and Northgate, Yarmouth North and Southtown and Cobholm wards, which are our neighbourhoods.

They are shaped by high density housing, limited open spaces and distinct, resilient communities. Many local people here face daily challenges from low income, poor health, limited skills and opportunities. Our neighbourhoods are considered by policy makers and funders to be among the most deprived in the east of England.

Some of our services are delivered to a wider area: the rest of the Great Yarmouth Borough; Lowestoft and Waveney; and across Norfolk.
